January Newsletter 2024

New year, new opportunities to grow.

Before I begin my two month residency in Creative Spark Print Studio in March, I wanted to learn all about silk-screen printing, following on from my introduction to print making course last Autumn (I wrote about it here and here, oh and also here). You might recognise the piece I’ve used from my adventures in wood block engraving and I’m looking forward to playing with more possibilities with silk-screen printing.

I created a video reel of the process which you can find on my Instagram page.

(Creative Spark run all sorts of training courses and are definitely worth checking out, just off the M1 in Dundalk, it’s an ideal location. the whole team are brilliant and immensely talented!).

Rather than a digital negative, such as I used creating cyanotypes, I’m now working with a digital positive. Here the digital positive is sitting under a silkscreen frame that has been coated in photo emulsion in an exposure unit. The cable is there to break the vacuum once the exposure process is finished.

I’d love to hear your plans for 2024, are you going to try something new?
