Julie Corcoran

My name is Julie Corcoran (b1978) and I’m a Cavan based artist who works through the mediums of photography and printmaking.

Spiritual, symbolic and in dialogue with the soul; my work explores the narrative of the heroine’s journey. Entombed, escape; trapped, transcending; the dark, the light. Gothic, grunge and begrudgingly romantic.

My most recent award is a two month Creative Spark Print Studio Residency which begins in March 2024 and I’m a shortlist finalist for the John Richardson French Residency Award 2024.

Most recent projects include Irish Sign Language AAEX workshops with resulting exhibition, Hidden Abilities at Droichead Arts Centre, September 2023. In 2022, the workshops won the Louth Public Participation Network Cultural Award 2022.

I have collaborated on numerous projects from a Cross Border Peace IV photographic project, ‘Peaceful Photography’ in 2019 to Awash With Colour in 2021/2022 with AAEX (Arts as Exchange) and MOPOSOGS. The resulting exhibitions took place in Cavan, Monaghan, Louth and Tyrone.

I regularly gives talks on my work both nationally and internationally.

You can watch my YouTube interview with American photographer, John Cornicello by clicking this link - John Cornicello Photo conversations series.

My work is held in private and public collections nationally and internationally.
