#SecondCollectiveBelfast,

My Instagram takeover 24th May – 29th May 2021

What is Second Collective Belfast?

Second Collective Belfast is an organisation dedicated to supporting mature female artists by providing paid exhibition opportunities for fine artists, offering practical and mentoring support to these artists and by promoting learning opportunities and skill sharing opportunities for women in the fine art sector and beyond.

 Who is Second Collective Belfast?

Cathy Scullion is a visual artist and curator based in Belfast. She is a current member of Vault Artist Studios and has been awarded residencies with Belfast Print Workshop and Seacourt Print Workshop, has received Arts Council Funding in 2019 and 2021 and Freelands Foundation Funding in 2020.

Cathy is the co-founder of Second Collective Belfast where she has organised and curated a number of group exhibitions and artistic events, she has a passion for providing opportunities for emerging artists.

Sinéad O'Neill-Nicholl is a multi-disciplinary artist and curator using a range of new media to create installations, using light, audio, still images and video and who engages in live art performance to explore contemporary themes of gender, identity, truth and justice.

Sinead is co-founder of Second Collective Belfast, a current member and Trustee of Vault Artist Studios having received the 2020 Catalyst/Kilkenny Exchange Award, 2021 University of Atypical DDAF Award and Arts Council NI funding in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

So what can you expect from my Instagram takeover?

Loads of unabated self-promotion, seriously. I’m am allowed blow my own trumpet and I will!

Day 1 Introduction day, has to be done!

Day 2 and Day 3 will explore my art practice, essentially how I move from concept to finished print -the process and what I’m thinking every step of the way. If you’re lucky I may even throw in some of my preparatory drawings!

I also want to discuss the importance of a safe space. A safe space is not as easy as it sounds to create but you can create one and you will reap the benefits.

I’m not just going to blow my own trumpet, I have a whole brass section lined up for Day 4 and Day 5 exploring my collaborations will fellow artists and galleries.

Finally,  I’ve set aside Day 6 for gratitude because that’s always important and it keeps me grounded.

Here is the link to Second Collective Instagram account, they’re also on Facebook. If you’re a female artist interested in taking over the Instagram account for the week just DM the page.
