What makes A good photograph?
I’m constantly asked my opinion on what makes a good photograph; it’s part of my role as a judge. For a photographic organisation running a competition it’s primarily about comparing the entered images to find the strongest photographs in terms of content, technique, originality and presentation.
But the world is changing and wasting resources is not an option. Since the invention of chemical fixing, photography hasn’t been terribly environmentally friendly. The same could be said for digital photography, especially with Ai powered editing and storage (the helpful feature of being able to search all your images using the power of Ai gives Ai access to all your work, just saying).
Even being polite to Ai is costly…
Saying 'please' and 'thank you' to ChatGPT costs OpenAI millions, Sam Altman says
Being nice to your AI chatbot requires computational power that raises electricity and water costs
I believe it’s worth asking what makes a good photograph and considering all possibilities; especially sustainable ones.
