It all began with a two week artist residency at the Bristol Folkhouse Darkroom in January 2026. I discovered the Bristol Radical History group and the rest, as they say, is history.

King Billy Was a Slave Trader opened on the 20th June 2026 at The Kiosk Project Arts Space, Drogheda, just down the road from the Battle of the Boyne Visitor centre.

The photographic work on display, rooted in sustainable and ecological photographic practices with materials like West African pepper, coffee and sugar used as photographic developer was complemented with work made on site.

The title for the exhibition was based on recent uncovered evidence confirming without doubt, that King Billy was governor of the Royal African Company when he arrived in Ireland in 1690, and therefore a slave trader.

I requested the Minister in charge of the OPW update the visitor information provided to the public with this fact at the OPW site up the road.
