King Billy Was A Slave Trader Exhibition

You are cordially invited to the opening of my new exhibition,

King Billy Was A Slave Trader

at 3pm on Saturday, 20th June 2026 at The Kiosk Project Art Space, Drogheda, Co. Louth.

The exhibition will run for two weeks and is based on research and work begun during my two week artist residency at the Bristol Folkhouse Darkroom in January, supported by Cavan Arts Office.

This groundbreaking exhibition will shed new light on recent evidence uncovered about King Billy’s role as governor of the Royal African Company (RAC) just before independent research commissioned by the current Dutch King is due to be published in September 2026 (Historians have estimated that the RAC shipped more enslaved Africans to the Americas during the Atlantic slave trade than any other company).

The works will include a photographic study of the King Billy statue in Queens Square, Bristol - silver gelatin prints developed with used coffee grinds and correspondence between the artist and the Irish State requesting the Office of Public Works (OPW) update the information provided to the public at the Battle of the Boyne visitor centre in light of the Dutch Parliaments’ published study, State and Slavery and the recently uncovered document showing a transfer of shares between Edward Colston of the RAC to William III a month before becoming King, a year before he set foot in Ireland.

There will be a limited edition print available during the two weeks of the exhibition. More details closer to the time, but if you are a subscriber to my mailing list I will be making it available to you too.
