Making Visible the Invisible is funded through the Project Realisation Award under the Artist in the Community Scheme, managed by Create Ireland on behalf of the Arts Council. The project is hosted by SAOL Project and kindly supported by the Irish Prison Service and the Probation Service.

Exploring women’s experiences of criminalisation and imprisonment through photography and personal narratives, this exhibition brings together work from two collaborative research projects. The first, Dóchas in Focus, is a prison-based project involving women currently serving sentences and women previously imprisoned in the Dóchas Centre, the female prison within the Mountjoy Prison Complex. The second, SAOL on Bailis a community-based project involving women with lived experience of prison and the criminal justice system, facilitated by SAOL Project, a women’s community addiction and education project.
